Vernon Woodland Scantlebury – also known as “Vernon Thompson” peacefully departed this life on Friday October 22, 2021. Known to many as “Cockard” or “Iron Kite”, he resided at Kingsland Terrace, Christ Church and was formerly of Headley Road, Top Rock, Christ Church. Retired Driver with the National Sports Council and Member of the Nazarene Church, Gemswick, St. Philip. He will be sorely missed.

Loving father of Barry Richards (Raleigh NC), Dr. Adrian Richards DMD Oral Surgeon and Shirley Bradshaw

Loving stepfather of Paul Richards

Treasured grandfather of Tatianna, Marco and Cameron Richards

Devoted brother of Alfred Thompson (Kissimmee, FL), Michael Thompson, Roslyn Thompson (NY) and the late Clarence Thompson

Beloved uncle of Carol Ann Thompson (QEH), Janice Thompson (Canada), Sonia Reid, Terencia Coward, Bonita Thompson-Gooding, Jamal Harding, Ted Thompson and Randall McPherson (all of the USA), Sean Miller and Andrea Blenman

Dear friend of many including Errol and Jennifer Davis, Lynette Hinds, Muriel Drayton, Michelle Harding, Sylvie Payne, Ms. Jean Mandeville, Rodney, Dionne, Anne and the entire Richards family.


A Service of Thanksgiving celebrating the life of Vernon Woodland Scantlebury will take place in the Chapel of Coral Ridge Memorial Gardens, The Ridge, Christ Church on Saturday November 13, 2021 at 9:00 a.m.; immediately followed by interment in Summit Gardens at Coral Ridge Memorial Gardens. Due to limited seating, entry into the Chapel to attend the service will be by invitation only. During the service, a collection will be taken in aid of the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Viewing takes place at St. George’s Home for Funerals, Carmichael House, Carmichael, St. George, on Friday November 12, 2021 from 3:30 to 5:30 PM and an hour before the commencement of the Service in the Chapel. The Organist is kindly asked to attend. Flowers may be delivered to St. George’s Home for Funerals no later than 6:30 a.m. on the day of the funeral.
